Leavin’ for Las Vegas

This weekend I am off to Las Vegas for the largest gathering of wedding photographers in the world. Photographers from across the globe converge on Las Vegas every spring for inspiration before the wedding season kicks into high gear.

From classes to model shoots to networking and the trade show, the annual Wedding and Portrait Photographers International convention is a one-of-a-kind event that helps attendees keep pace with industry and improve both their business and photography skills.

At the trade show, vendors showcase their latest offerings, and I find it is a perfect opportunity to find new and innovative products to offer to my couples. Of course, it can be more harmful to the checkbook than the blackjack tables with trade show offering savings on the latest products and technology. Last year, I won money at the blackjack table, but lost it all at the trade show - but at least when you lose there you come back with new equipment or products.

Of course, I’ll be checking e-mail and voicemail while I am gone, but I will be operating on Pacific Standard Time, so I may not be able to get back to you until the next day.

Here are a few photos from my previous trips to Las Vegas where I stayed longer then this whirlwind trip and had time to visit sites outside of the Strip, including the national parks in southern Utah.

Leap Year weddings

Today I decide to follow-up on my post from yesterday and visit the county courthouse to meet some couples getting married on February 29.

I was able to meet three fabulous couples who didn’t have an official wedding photographer, and were gracious enough to allow me to cover their ceremony. I am going to provide each of the couples with a disc of images and an online gallery at no charge.

As expected, all three had unique reasons for wanting to get married on February 29. Here are a few photos from my short visit to the courthouse.

Their friends and family asked the couple to pose against a wall. Then after, the photo they turned around and saw what their friends and family were laughing about. Is it a coincidence that these two departments share an office?

They’re Engaged!

My cousin Lauren and her boyfriend Matt are officially engaged. I just want to take a moment to wish them the best. After seeing them together last fall at a wedding I photographed where they were in the bridal party, I knew it wouldn’t be long. Here are a few photos of the happy couple at Nina and Gabe’s wedding last year.

Happy Valentine’s Day

As a wedding photographer, I am always excited for Valentine’s Day. Not because of the flowers, or chocolate, but because of the many thousands of marriage proposals that will take place today.

However, I haven’t always felt this way about Valentine’s Day, and I am sure a few others out there feel this way (including those who proposed this year and will wondering what they can do next year as a follow-up).
