Arts Gone Wild - Toledo Zoo

Thousands flocked to the Toledo Zoo to celebrate Toledo’s artistic instincts during the four-day Arts Gone Wild event.

The event offered diverse species of cultural offerings from around the region, including local artists along with interactive and participatory activities.

Sunday I attended with Nate while Allison went to her Zoo Teen meeting. I also renewed my zoo membership. If you don’t have one - what are you waiting for?

Here is a short video featuring a community arts project - building a frog from recyclables - as well as some of the performances by the students from the Toledo School for the Arts.

The music is from the performances of Glass City Steel, a product of the Toledo School for the Arts.

Loxahatchee Wildlife Preserve

This week the kids and I are in Florida on Spring Break. We landed in West Palm Beach to visit my parents and shortly we are leaving for Orlando where we plan to visit Sea World and Universal.

Today, we went to the Loxahatchee Wildlife Preserve where you can get up close and personal with alligators. Something that my Mom didn’t realize until we were overlooking the alligators in the water from the boardwalk or the boat dock. Once she realized that there was nothing between us and the alligators except for about 6 feet of water and a few feet of shore, she was eager to head for the car.

Because I am on vacation, I just carry the point and shoot, so pardon the quality of the family snapshots. Here are two photos - one with the alligator - cloaked for attack in the water - and another with the kids on the dock. If you look closely, you can see the alligator in the water between the kids.

Despite Alli’s best coaching, she couldn’t convince Nate to go for a swim.
